  • Page Banners

    July 11, 2010 by citizenkeys

WikiTorrents' new layout has page banners all over the place. The banners are on the left and right of every page. Please feel free to contribute page banners to advertise a page on our site. To make our banners re-usable, we use standard banner widths as defined by Google Adsense.

Width is important, but height is not so important.
On the left and right page columns, we use 180 pixel width by 150 pixel height.
For the top center of each page, we use 468 pixel width by any reasonable height.

  • Wiki Layout Integration

    July 3, 2010 by citizenkeys

Wiki pages now uses the new layout. Wiki page editing is disabled while we resolve a few minor aesthetic issues.

Usability improvements include a search box consistently located in the top-right, links to main page topics under the search box, and user details in the top-left.

Alot of unnecessary code and output were removed when we upgraded the layout. Wiki pages should load in your browser much faster and search results should also be more relevant.

  • HTML5, Findability, & More

    June 30, 2010 by citizenkeys

HTML5 is the heart of our new layout, which will soon apply to all the actual wiki pages. WikiTorrents previous layout used relied heavily on table-based layouts. Using tables for layouts hid our content from search engines and also made pages download more slowly. This new layout makes it easier to find information and use the site for research.

Findability is also very important. WikiTorrents.org is the internet's largest known wiki site devoted primarily to collections of torrent files. Using our pages to find videos and multimedia for research purposes is what we're all about. Therefore, a working search feature, sitemaps, and other upcoming features are fundamentally important to us.

Lastly, using html5 will enable us to offer new features. After we get this layout and technology implemented, very soon we will also be adding more new exciting stuff!

About WikiTorrents: WikiTorrents is user-created wiki pages of BitTorrent links to movies, music, & more. Pages have a theme, like a category, person, or subject. This site specializes in feature-length videos in "good enough" quality and encoded in XViD / DiVX / MP4 / H.264 / ISO that use public torrents. WikiTorrents links to many trackers and BitTorrent search engines. We welcome links to videos that are mainstream, documentary, artsy, independent, rare, and obscure.

WikiTorrents is not your typical BitTorrent site. WikiTorrents is not a tracker. WikiTorrents does not host torrent files. Torrents are linked in user-created pages that are practical and useful. For example, WikiTorrents links to over 1,000 feature-length documentaries, sorted by category, to assist you in your own personal quest for knowledge and understanding. Our goal is that you will use WikiTorrents for both research and entertainment purposes.

To use a .torrent file requires a BitTorrent app, like uTorrent or Azureus Vuze. To share a .torrent requires a tracker, like OpenBitTorrent. To watch movies requires a media player, like VLC, Media Portal, and ffdshow tryouts.
